One rainy afternoon, when he could not go outside to play, his aunt gave him an old sketchbook and a box of pencils. He started copying a picture of a bird from a magazine, and to his surprise the result was quite good. From that day, Oliver drew something almost every evening. He did not show his pictures to anyone at first, because he was afraid that people would laugh at them. His art teacher, Miss Carter, noticed his talent during a lesson and encouraged him to keep practising. She also lent him a book about famous painters. This year Oliver entered one of his drawings in the school art competition. He did not win first prize, but the judges gave him a special mention for his clever use of colour. Now he dreams of becoming an illustrator one day, and he carries his sketchbook with him almost everywhere he goes.

The thing that surprised her most was not the famous buildings, but the underground railway, which everyone in the city calls the Tube. It is one of the oldest underground systems in the world, and millions of people use it every single day. At first Maria found the map confusing, because there were so many coloured lines crossing the city. Her brother explained that each line had a different name and colour, so once she understood that, it became much easier. They bought a special travel card that allowed them to use the trains and buses all week without paying each time. Maria's favourite station was an old one with beautiful tiles on the walls. She noticed that the trains came every few minutes, so they never had to wait long. By the end of the trip, she felt confident enough to find her way around the city completely on her own.

Her parents had told her for a long time that she was too young, but they decided she was now old enough to use one responsibly. Before they gave it to her, they agreed on some simple rules: no phone during meals and no screens after nine o'clock in the evening. At first Sophie spent hours taking photos and chatting with her friends in a group message. Her favourite app was one that let her edit pictures and add funny stickers. However, she soon noticed that she was reading fewer books than before, which made her a little worried. To fix the problem, Sophie set herself a goal to read for thirty minutes every day before going to sleep, instead of using her phone. After a few weeks the habit became easy, and she felt much calmer in the evenings. She told her parents that having rules about the phone had actually helped her.

He had always loved the sport, but he had never practised so often before. The coach, Mr Reed, was strict about being on time, and any player who arrived late had to run extra laps around the pitch. At first Lucas found the training very hard, and after the first session he could barely walk home. However, he did not give up, and slowly he became one of the strongest players in the team. He was especially good at defending, although he secretly wished he could score more goals. In May the team reached the final of the regional cup. They lost the match by a single goal, but Mr Reed told them he was proud of how far they had come. Lucas was disappointed, yet he already could not wait for the next season to begin.

None of them had ever slept in a tent before, so they were both excited and a little nervous. They packed sleeping bags, warm clothes and plenty of food, because there were no shops near the campsite. Putting up the tent turned out to be much harder than they had expected. It took almost an hour and a lot of laughing before it finally stood up straight. That evening they cooked sausages over a small fire and watched the stars, which were brighter than any they had seen in the city. During the night it rained heavily, but luckily the tent kept them dry. In the morning the air smelled fresh and clean, and they went for a long walk beside a cold mountain stream. Although the trip was not always comfortable, the whole family agreed it had been a real adventure and decided to go camping again the following summer.

My name is Tom and I am nine years old. I love Saturdays because there is no school. But on Saturday morning I never sleep late. My family always cleans the house together, and everyone has a job to do. My job is to feed our dog, Rex, and then take him for a walk in the park. I don't like washing the dishes, so my sister Kate does that. My mum cooks lunch while my dad fixes things in the garage. After lunch we go shopping. We don't go to the big shopping centre. We walk to the small shop near our house because it is quicker. I usually buy apples and bread, but today my mum let me buy a chocolate bar too. In the evening I am tired, but I am happy. Saturday is a busy day, but it is my favourite day of the week.
