Oliver discovered his love of drawing almost by accident. One rainy afternoon, when he could not go outside to play, his aunt gave him an old sketchbook and a box of pencils. He started copying a picture of a bird from a magazine, and to his surprise the result was quite good.
From that day, Oliver drew something almost every evening. He did not show his pictures to anyone at first, because he was afraid that people would laugh at them. His art teacher, Miss Carter, noticed his talent during a lesson and encouraged him to keep practising. She also lent him a book about famous painters.
This year Oliver entered one of his drawings in the school art competition. He did not win first prize, but the judges gave him a special mention for his clever use of colour. Now he dreams of becoming an illustrator one day, and he carries his sketchbook with him almost everywhere he goes.
