When Emma started at her new school in September, she felt quite lonely because she did not know anyone. Then her English teacher told her about the school book club, which met every Thursday after lessons in the library. Emma loved reading, so she decided to give it a try, although she was a little nervous at first.
The club had about fifteen members, and each month they chose a different book to read and discuss together. They usually picked adventure stories, but sometimes they read poetry or short plays. The teacher who ran the club, Mr Davies, always brought biscuits and made hot chocolate for everyone.
By the end of the term, Emma had made several good friends and even helped to organise a small reading festival for younger pupils. She said that joining the club was the best decision she had made since moving to the new town, and she could not wait for the next meeting.
