Last winter Anna and her family travelled across the country by train to visit her uncle, who lived in a city far in the east. The journey lasted almost three days, and Anna had never been on such a long trip before. Their train left the station early in the morning, and at first Anna was worried that she would feel bored. However, the long hours passed much faster than she had expected.
The family had a small compartment with four beds, a little table and a wide window. Anna spent a lot of time looking outside, because the view changed all the time. In the first hours she saw busy towns and grey factories, but later there were only endless forests covered with snow, frozen rivers and tiny villages with smoking chimneys. In the evening her father bought hot tea from a friendly conductor, and the whole family played card games until it was time to sleep.
The best moment came on the second day, when the train stopped for half an hour at a station high in the mountains. Anna got out and felt the cold, fresh air, and she took several photos of the snowy peaks. Although the trip was tiring, she enjoyed every minute of it. When they finally arrived, her uncle was waiting for them on the platform with a big smile. Anna told her parents that she wanted to travel by train again, because she had seen more of her country in three days than in all the years before.
